Detailed Description

ptcG12/ptctuf-1 flies have severely reduced, rough eyes, and a mildly enlarged head vertex (ocellar triangle, fronto-orbital plate and frons). They occasionally lack one or both antennae.

Homozygotes exhibit reduced number of denticle rows and each belt is rectangular shape.

Nondefective in gonad assembly.

Double mutant embryos with hh21 are larger than hh21 homozygotes and exhibit a phenotype similar to ptc.

ptc mutant embryos have Keilin's organs, but these often have four or more sensory hairs rather than the normal three. ptcG12/ptcS2 and ptcG12/ptc9 embryos grew in in vivo culture, producing implants containing larval gut, Malpighian tubule, fat body, salivary gland, brain and imaginal discs. The discs tended to grow as a mass of merged sheet of material. Metamorphosed implants produced adult cuticular structures derived from the eye-antenna, leg and wing discs.

The reduction in distance between wing veins III and IV and partial fusions of these veins proximal to the anterior crossvein that is seen in flies expressing smo5A.Scer\UAS.T:Zzzz\FLAG under the control of Scer\GAL4C-765 are suppressed by ptcG12/+; the resulting flies have nearly normal wings.

Has no effect on the eye phenotype produced by activated arm constructs. (either armS44Y.GMR or armS56F.GMR).

ptcG12 smo3 double homozygotes raised at 25oC show an essentially wild type phenotype. Scer\GAL4e22c-mediated expression of hhScer\UAS.cIa changes the denticle belt morphology.
