Description

A 3.5kb hobo is inserted into the 3' splice site of the male-specific exon 3. The hobo is transcribed in the same direction as Sxl.

~5 kb hobo insertion near male-specific exon 3. Shown to be a hobo (Bernstein, 1989) rather than 297 as originally reported.

Insert stated as cause: 297{} Insertion of approximately 5kb 297 element into Sxl, approximately 1kb proximal to the site of roo element insertion in SxlM1. SxlM3 and SxlM5 are similar at the molecular level.

The SxlM alleles differ in their ability to bypass the X:A signal. SxlM4 is more effective than SxlM3, is more effective than SxlM1, at suppressing female-specific zygotic lethality of sisA and scsisB mutations.
