Polytene chromosomes normal.
lethal (with Df(2R)BSC484)
Shows reduction in profile of DOPA accumulation after adult eclosion.
Cuticle defects.
GTP cyclohydrolase activity is reduced to less than 50% of wild-type in the prepupa, adult body and adult head of heterozygotes.
Eye colour: purplish, resembles pr1. Class II allele.
Non-complementing allele.
Grell, Feb. 1957.
Grell.
GTP CH activity reduced to less than 50% normal levels, in prepupae, adult body and adult head, i.e. lower than observed in deficiency heterozygotes. Activity 80% normal in genotypes that carry, in addition to Pu2, two doses of Pu+.
Heterozygotes have 18% enzyme activity compared to wild-type, this reduction in activity being evident in all tissues and developmental times in which the enzyme is normally expressed. Levels of all pteridine compounds are diminished. Heterozygotes also carrying an inversion of the 57C-57D region of 2R which contains Pu have at least 80% enzyme activity compared to wild-type.
The viability and eye phenotype in trans with other Pu alleles has been determined.
Class II Pu allele.
19 - 33% activity of the wild type enzyme. Diminished levels of 5,6,7,8-tetrahydroperin and 5,6,7,8-tetrahydrobioperin.
