The wings are held at a 45o angle from the body and are slightly elevated in mutant flies. The tips of the wings are usually curved up in young flies, although occasionally they may curve down. In poor cultures the wings are usually shrivelled. Old flies also usually have shrivelled wings. At 18oC cupping of the wings is still evident but the wings do not shrivel, and the wings are longer and more tenuous than wild type.
