Preblastoderm lethal.

Homozygous mothers produce fertilised embryos, DNA replication is uncoupled from nuclear division resulting in one giant polyploid nuclei. Trans-heterozygotes with the multiple nuclei alleles, png2 and png4, produce embryos with multiple polyploid nuclei.

Embryonic defects detectable during preblastoderm stages.
