chromosome (with mus304D3)
mus304D1/mus304D3 mutants have a similar frequency of single-strand annealing repair (SSA) compared to controls in a P{wIw.FRT} hemizygous assay to study DNA double-stranded break repair when assayed at 32oC or 38oC.
In the absence of irradiation, mus304D1 eye discs have normal morphology and a wild-type number and distribution of mitotic cells. The number of mitotic cells is unchanged following irradiation, in contrast to wild-type discs where very few cells are in M phase after irradiation. The presence of mitotic cells in these irradiated discs is not a result of either a delayed onset of or a rapid recovery from cell cycle arrest. The defect in the DNA damage checkpoint is also seen in wing discs. mus304D1/Df(3L)W4 and mus304D1/Df(3L)x37 animals have macrochaetae defects (probably due genomic instability resulting in the loss of genetic material at haploinsufficient Minute loci). mus304D1/mus304D2 flies have wild-type eyes. The frequency of chromosome aberrations following X-ray irradiation is threefold greater in mus304D1/Df(3L)W4 cells than in wild type. The spontaneous frequency of chromosomal aberrations in mus304D1/Df(3L)W4 animals is more than 10-fold greater than in wild type. The majority of aberrations are chromatid or isochromatid breaks. Loss of heterozygosity is elevated compared to wild-type in homozygous, mus304D1/Df(3L)W4 and mus304D1/Df(3L)x37 animals. mus304D1/Df(3L)W4 females show a meiotic chromosome segregation defect, which is manifested as a moderate increase in female exceptional progeny (derived from diplo-X ova) and a pronounced increase in male exceptional progeny (derived from nullo-X ova).
Flies are not sensitive to X rays.
Hypersensitive to methyl methanesulfonate. Sensitive to 0.008% HN2.
female-fertile

The chromosome fusion phenotype seen in third instar larval neuroblasts of tefuunspecified mutants is enhanced by mus304D1/mus304D3 and strongly enhanced by mus304D1/mus304D1.
If mus304D1/mus304D2 flies are also heterozygous for E(mus304)1 they have rough eyes and abnormal or missing bristles.
mus304D1/mus304D3 has no effect on the frequency of X-Y chromosome nondisjunction seen in Df(1)X-1-53B males, but shows a significant enhancement of meiotic drive in these flies compared to controls.
