Embryos show a ventralised phenotype of intermediate strength with expanded ventral epidermis and lacking dorsolaterally derived filzkorper. Injection of cactΔN25.ΔPEST or cactΔN50.ΔPEST RNA into the posterior end can rescue the ventralised phenotype. Injection of cactΔN75.ΔPEST or cactΔN83.ΔPEST causes a weak dorsal phenotype and injection of cactΔN100.ΔPEST or cactΔN125.ΔPEST causes complete dorsalisation.
Moderate ventralizing phenotype: dorsal epidermis is replaced by naked epidermis of more lateral positions and sense organs of the head are lost. Expansion of twi expression in terminal regions.
