B1 flies have reduced eye size.

Heterozygotes have a deep anterior nick in the adult eye.

All three pairs of legs are wild type in mutant flies. The antennae are normal.

B1 males that are also mutant at mle4 males have narrower eyes than their mle4/+ sibs.

Eye restricted to narrow vertical bar. Homozygous female fully viable. B1/+ female has about 360 facets and shows indentation terminating in horizontal fissure on anterior margin of eye, producing a kidney-shaped eye. B1/B1 and B1/+ completely separable from wild type; in some genetic backgrounds, B1/B1 overlaps B1/+ slightly. Classifiable in single dose in triploids by slight anterior nick in eye; is useful in the recognition of triploids.

RK1A. Dana\B-H1 sequences hybridized to the duplicated regions of B1, B2, BMR2 and BMR3.

Lpt1/+ strongly enhances the reduced eye phenotype of B1/+ flies.

B1/+ ; L2/+ animals have a no eye phenotype.

In animals that are homozygous for ecd1 and are also B1 the addition of trr1 enhances the eye phenotype.

The severity of the leg defects seen in dppd6/dppd16 flies is enhanced by B1. There is an overall shortening in length along the proximal-distal axis of the leg and complete or partial fusion or even total loss of tarsal segments. The tibia and femur are deformed, showing shortening, bulging and disorganised bristle patterns. The coxa and trochanter are not so strongly affected. The sex comb of the prothoracic leg, when present, is always duplicated in these flies. The antenna phenotype of dppd6/dppd16 flies is enhanced by B1; the arista, 4th and 5th segments are completely absent and the 2nd and 3rd segments are widened and deformed and have defects in the bristle pattern. B1 ; dppd6/dppd16 flies completely lack ommatidia. All B1 ; dppd6/dppd16 males completely lack external genitalia.

The B1 eye phenotype is dominantly enhanced by oro1 and oro2. The eyes of oro1/+ ; B1/+ flies are approximately half the size of those of B1/+ flies.

Interacts with B1 to give small, glazed, almost facetless eyes.

su(B)1 is a recessive modifier of B1; it causes a great increase in the number of facets in the eyes of B1 males, and a slight increase in the number of facets in the eyes of homozygous B1 females.

mb1 is a recessive suppressor of B1; it modifies B1/B1 females to a phenotype resembling or less severe than B1/+ and modifies B1/+ females to almost resemble wild type. B1 males are modified to a phenotype resembling or less severe than Bi.
