In(3L)A54/Df(3L)E44 and In(3L)A54/Df(3L)F10 transheterozygotes recessive phenotypes are seen. These include missing mid-thorax, reduced eyes and aristae, and held-up wings. These recessive phenotypes may reflect effects of the In(3L)A54 69BC inversion breakpoint on gv and eyg. Viability is low with many uneclosed pupae. When dissected, these pupae are headless (except for the presence of palps) or have very reduced heads. They also show the thoracic defects seen in the viable escapers.
Fails to complement Df(3L)F10.
The Df(3L)E44 chromosome does not act as a dominant suppressor of telomeric silencing (assayed using the effect of the chromosome on the eye colour phenotype of flies carrying "P{wvar}KR3-2", a stable "brown-red" variant of the P{3'WP-2,wvar}2Lt insertion).
