The effect of temperature and parental source of T(1;2)dorvar7 on position effect variegation has been studied. The minimal zone of variegation occurs at 25oC with a maternal source of T(1;2)dorvar7 and includes 8-9 loci; hfw, dor, sta, l(1)2Ae, Ns3, l(1)1EFe, br, br and possibly cwi. The maximal zone of variegation occurs at 14oC with a paternal source of T(1;2)dorvar7 and includes 10-11 loci; hfw, dor, sta, l(1)2Ae, Ns3, l(1)1EFe, l(1)1EFi, br, br and possibly l(1)1EFf.
The T(1;2)dorvar7 translocation causes the position-effect variegation of several loci responsible for ecdysone induction resulting in morphological changes and reduction in viability.
show position-effect variegation whose spread and type is affected by the source (maternal or paternal) of the rearrangement and the temperature (Demakova and Belyaeva, 1988).
Compaction and gene inactivation spread from the 2R heterochromatin break towards 1A and never towards 7A.
The replication pattern of the 2B X chromosome region translocated to the pericentric heterochromatin in T(1;2)dorvar7 has been studied. When the 2B region contains normal, decondensed bands it completes replication early. However if the 2B region shows compaction into a dense block due to position effect, it undergoes late replication that occurs together with the most late replicating intercalary heterochromatic regions of the X chromosome and the 75C-80C segment of the 3L chromosome.
Additional rearrangements between X and second chromosome.
