Description

A 600bp XbaI-HindIII fragment carrying the complete zen ventral repression element (VRE) (sequence from -1.6 to -1.0kb relative to the zen transcription start site) is fused upstream of the eve MSE. The VRE is in the same orientation relative to the promoter as in the native zen promoter.

Reference

In stage 5 embryo, the ventral portion of the eve second stripe pattern is repressed; in addition, there is dorsal expression outside the eve second stripe. This results, during embryonic cycle 14A, in dorsal expression from the region of eve stripe 2 and more posterior; and during embryonic cycle 14B, in high levels of expression in the dorsal half of the eve stripe 2 region, with lower levels in more posterior dorsal regions.
