Insertion lines from this collection were assessed for inclusion in the Gene Disruption Project collection.
A set of mutant stocks derived by insertional mutagenesis using the P-element construct P{lacW}; most lines have a lethal or sterile phenotype. The P{lacW} construct carries a w+mC mini-white visible marker, Ecol\lacZ enhancer trap sequences, and bacterial sequences that allow plasmid rescue (FBrf0049800).
l(2)k14501
FlyBase curator comment: the "l(2)k14501" insertion line was previously listed as an allele of l(2)k01209 in FlyBase, due to the failure of the "l(2)k14501" insertion line to complement the "l(2)k08901" insertion line. However, the "l(2)k08901" insertion line has been shown to contain a deletion (Df(2R)k08901) that encompasses several genes (see FBrf0217415), not just l(2)k01209. The failure of "l(2)k14501" and "l(2)k08901" to complement may thus be due to an effect of the "l(2)k14501" insertion on any of the genes affected by Df(2R)k08901 and "l(2)k14501" may not be an allele of l(2)k01209. The "l(2)k14501" insertion line has therefore been split out from the l(2)k01209 gene until more information about which gene is affected by this insertion is known.
This insertion was listed in the BDGP database as a lethal or sterile line during the period 1994-1999, but was not verified as such prior to the summary publication (FBrf0111489). Reasons for excluding lines from the collection described in FBrf0111489 include presence of more than one P insertion on the mutant chromosome, separation of lethality (or sterility) from the location of the insertion, and loss of lethality (or sterility) from the stock.
