Comments

Multiple copies of Dvir\Penelope are present in the P-like strain but not in the M-like strain, suggesting that Dvir\Penelope might be responsible for an observed dysgenesis syndrome.

Dvir\Penelope is structurally most similar to retroelements of the orphan class. Progeny from a dysgenic cross between females of strain B9 and males of strain L160 show mobilisation of at least four different transposable elements at similar frequencies.
