The following information accompanied stocks donated to the Bloomington Drosophila Stock Center by Christopher Potter and Liqun Luo. P{ET-GAL80} was constructed as follows - the GAL4 insert from enhancer trap P{GalW} (Gerlitz et al, 2002, Int. J. Dev. Bio., 46(1):173-6) was removed by NotI digestion and replaced with a Gal80-hsp70 insert. The white gene was then excised by EcoRV/SacII digestion, the vector blunted with Klenow, and the yellow gene was inserted as a Sal1 fragment from the y S/G plasmid (gift from Pamela Geyer, University of Iowa), blunted with Klenow. The insertions on the X and 2nd are good for jumping to create new GAL80 enhancer trap insertions, or for transposon swapping. P{ET-GAL80}1 is a homozygous and hemizygous viable and fertile insertion on the X chromosome P{ET-GAL80}2 in a homozygous viable insertion on the second chromosome
