Colocalization studies with gamma tubulin show that Mzt1 reporter is present at low leves in early spermatocytes and in higher levels in mature spermatocytes where it localizes in centrioles. It concentrates strongly at basal bodies in round spermatids. It localizes along the length of the basal body and at the centriole adjunct which forms a ring around the centre of the basal body in elongating spermatids and in intermediate spermatids. In late canoe-stage nuclei, it has started to dissociate from the basal body.
