Expression of Mmus\Nos2Mac.Scer\UAS under the control of Scer\GAL4ey-OK107 or Scer\GAL4elav-C155 promotes abnormally early axon pruning in the mushroom body gamma-lobe, as compared to controls.

Larvae in which constitutively active Mmus\Nos2Mac.Scer\UAS is expressed under the control of Scer\GAL4phm.PO eat less than their wild-type contemporaries and grow more slowly, failing to pass beyond the second instar larval stage (as determined by mouth-hook teeth numbers). The majority of these larvae die by 5 days after egg laying.

The prothoracic glands in embryos expressing Mmus\Nos2Mac.Scer\UAS under the control of Scer\GAL4phm.PO are comparable in size to same-age wild-type larval prothoracic glands, as are the ratios between prothoracic gland and brain lobe diameters.

The small size of larvae expressing Mmus\Nos2Mac.Scer\UAS under the control of Scer\GAL4phm.PO appears to be attributed to a decrease in the size of all tissues. While the relative size of the fat bodies in these larvae appear to be the same as in wild-type, lipid vesicles are notably depleted of triglycerides.
