Expression of MarfHMC03883 under the control of Scer\GAL4GMR.long leads to fewer endoplasmic reticulum-mitochondria contact sites in ommatidia.

Expression of MarfHMC03883 under the control of Scer\GAL4VGlut-OK371 significantly reduces mitochondrial length in axons of adult neurons, compared to controls, with no effect on mitochondrial number, compared to controls

Expression of MarfHMC03883 leads to strong defects in mitochondrial fusion in the body wall cells of third instar larvae (with the Scer\GAL4Mef2.PU driver) as well as in the indirect flight muscles in adults (with the Scer\GAL4Mhc.PU driver) - the mitochondria are short and fragmented compared to controls.

The expression of MarfHMC03883 under the control of Scer\GAL4Mhc.PW results in a range of defects in dorsal longitudinal indirect flight muscles, as compared to controls: thinner myofibrils and sarcomere disorganization (with vanishing Z lines and A bands) at 21, but not at 4, days post eclosion; mitochondrion defects, as shown by an abnormal morphology and a significant and progressive decrease in the mitochondria electron density in electron microscopy images at days 14 to 21 days post eclosion; and a significant increase in cytoplasmic polyubiquitin aggregates at 14 days post eclosion. These individuals also exhibit flight defects, as shown by a significant decrease in landing height at 21 days post eclosion, as compared to controls.
