Detailed Description

Ca-α1Tdel mutant males and females show a significantly decreased lifespan compared to controls; males, but not females, also show a less severe age-dependent decline in locomotion, as compared to controls.

Ca-α1Tdel mutants show decreased cardiac function, as shown by the significant decrease in heart rate, end diastolic diameter and arrhythmic index, but not in fractional shortening or end systolic diameter, as compared to controls.

Adult MN5 neurons show multiple calcium current phenotypes in mutant animals. In 56% of animals both the transient low voltage activated (LVA) and the sustained high voltage activated (HVA) calcium currents are completely abolished, in 28% of cases LVA and HVA calcium currents with reduced amplitudes are seen, and in the remaining 16% of cases the calcium currents of the MN5 neuron appear similar to those of control animals.

Genetic Interactions
Statement

Expression of cacScer\UAS.T:Avic\GFP-EGFP under the control of Scer\GAL4103.3 in a Ca-α1Tdel background results in low voltage activated, maximum total calcium current and sustained high voltage activated calcium currents with normal activation voltages but reduced amplitudes compared to controls in the adult MN5 neuron.
