Internal deletion of Crz upstream sequences from -311 to -249bp.
ScerGAL4Crz.504.Δ311-249 drives expression in approximately 14 neurons of the adult pars lateralis that are positive for CycA.
Activation of the pars lateralis neurons (neurons expressing Scer\GAL4Crz.504.Δ311-249) decreases sleep. Activity levels during waking periods are not affected. Sleep bout duration is markedly reduced, while sleep bout number shows little change (a significant increase is seen in males but not in females). Sleep latency (the time between lights off to the first sleep) is significantly increased in both males and females.
Adult-stage activation of Scer\GAL4Crz.504.Δ311-249-expressing neurons also reduces sleep in both make and female flies.
Blocking the activity of Scer\GAL4Crz.504.Δ311-249-expressing neurons significantly increases sleep in female flies.
