Only small homozygous clones in the follicle cells are recovered. They produce a number of defects including multilayering of the epithelium (which includes both mutant and wild-type cells) and occasionally gaps in the follicle cell epithelium or delamination of mutant cells. The mutant cells undergo morphological changes similar to a epithelial-mesenchymal transition.
Homozygous female germline clones arrest oogenesis at stage 4.
