Mutant flies remain rhythmic in constant 3000-lux light. Mutant flies show changes in circadian behavioural phase in response to brief pulses of illumination at different times of the night; they show phase delays in the early night and phase advances in the late night. The magnitude of these phase changes is reduced compared to that seen in wild-type flies when the light intensity during the day is 1000 lux and the light pulse during the night is 3000 lux, but when the light intensity during the day is 25 lux and the light pulse during the night is 3000 lux the magnitude of the phase changes in the mutant flies is almost as robust as that in wild-type flies.
