Expression of ShB cDNA is under the control of an Hsp70 promoter region from -291 to +62 (including the TATA box and transcription start site).
Encodes a functional A-type channel (according to expression studies in Xenopus oocytes, FBrf0048790). Heat shock does not induce a vigorous leg shaking phenotype.
ShB channels are expressed in primary cultured cells from transformant embryos. The current, mean open time and median first latency parameters are within the range of the parameters for both the native channel and ShB channel expressed in Xenopus oocytes. Similar to expression in oocytes the transformant channels do not exhibit a pulse-dependent rundown phenomenon (indicating rapid recovery from inactivation) and similar to the native channel they are insensitive to charybdotoxin (CTX).
