      One copy of P{abo9.0} significantly increases the recovery of both X/O and X/Y sons from abo1 homozygous mothers, but one copy does not completely rescue the maternal defect. Two maternal copies of P{abo9.0} further enhances this partial rescue. The presence of P{abo9.0} in zygotes increases their survival from the abo1 maternal effect. P{abo9.0} partially fulfills the requirement for maternal and zygotic abo+ function.
