copia insertion results in new classes of w transcripts terminating or initiating in the copia element and produces developmentally programmed effects on levels of polyadenylated w transcripts. Mutational inactivation of su(wa) elevates levels of wa transcripts corresponding to transcriptional readthrough of the copia insertion.
