Detailed Description

Reference

Flies show a loss or reduction in the number of scutellar, anterior dorsocentral, first and second orbital, ocellar and some other bristles. Pigmentation is normal. The phenotype is affected by mod(mdg4)ul; the ocellar, first and second orbital bristles are present, while the dorsocentral bristles are lost completely. Hairs and bristles are yellow.

Like sc but does not affect anterior notopleurals. Suppressed by su(Hw)2 (Lee, 1973). RK1. Some stocks currently labelled sc3B are reverted for sc but are now ac3B.

Comments

Molecular data suggests that the original sc3B chromosome had a complete gypsy inserted in the scute β region. Later this gypsy is excised, leaving behind its LTR. Another mutational event inserted a second gypsy in the ac region, explaining the present ac phenotype.
