Flies carrying the Ge-1EME polymorphism show increased resistance to Sigma virus compared to control flies that do not carry this naturally occurring polymorphism; 10 days after injection with the virus, only 3% of flies carrying Ge-1EME show symptoms of infection, compared to 94% of the control flies.

Flies show delayed appearance of the symptom of CO[[2]] sensitivity which is caused by infection with Sigma virus.
