Description
Description
RNase MRP processes ribosomal RNA (rRNA) precursors at the A3 site allowing formation of the 5.8S pre-rRNA. It is a ribonucleoprotein (RNP) complex, structurally and evolutionary related to the nuclear RNase P, and is found only in eukaryotes. RNase MRP shares most of its protein subunits with nuclear RNase P, though has a distinct catalytic RNA subunit. (Adapted from PMID:16998185 and PMID:20627997.)
Notes on Group

Most protein subunits of yeast and human RNase P are shared with RNase MRP. THe exception is Rpr2/Rpp21, which is known to be unique to RNase P, while there is some evidence that other human RNase P subunits are absent from RNase MRP (see PMID: 20627997). The composition of D. melanogaster RNase MRP has not been assessed, and so all RNase P protein subunits excepting Rpp21 have been included here.
