Females expressing AbiΔWIRS.Scer\UAS under the control of Scer\GAL4da.PU in a AbiΔ20 background lay eggs with shape defects, with most eggs showing normal shape, but a significant proportion exhibiting a spherical shape, in contrast to controls. Egg chambers in these females show strong defects in the planar polarized basal follicle cell actin cytoskeleton, with actin filaments no longer aligned perpendicular to the A-P axis, in contrast to controls; and follicle cells fail to migrate and show a loss of whip-like protrusions and loss of polarization of filopodial protrusions, in contrast to wild type.
