nurse cell, with AbiΔ20
Egg chambers from female flies expressing AbiScer\UAS.P\T.AW under the control of Scer\GAL4da.PU in a AbiΔ20 mutant background are small and aberrantly shaped compared to controls. Some spherical but larger egg chambers are also seen. The cortical actin cytoskeleton in nurse cells is substantially reduced, resulting in the formation of multinucleated nurse cells. Free-floating ring canals are often observed in such nurse cells. Even more severe defects are seen in the actin cytoskeleton of older stage egg chambers (stage 10B). The actin bundles are severely disorganised compared to control egg chambers.
AbiUASp.AW/Scer\GAL4da.PU fails to rescue AbiΔ20
Expression of AbiScer\UAS.P\T.AW under the control of Scer\GAL4da.PU does not fully rescue the dumping defects in eggs from AbiΔ20 mutant females. The resulting flies are almost completely sterile.
