UAS regulatory sequences drive expression of a DsRed(Unk) fluorescent protein. A genomic fragment containing the mir-980 pre-miRNA hairpin has been inserted into the DsRed(Unk) 3'UTR.

Ectopic expression of mir-980Scer\UAS.T:Disc\RFP under the control of Scer\GAL4GMR13F02 impairs 3 hr memory in an aversive olfactory memory assay in adults compared to controls without impairing odor or shock perception.

Ectopic expression of mir-980sponge.V2.Scer\UAS.T:Disc\RFP-mCherry under the control of Scer\GAL4GH146 does not significantly alter excitability (mean firing frequency) of the projection neurons in the adult optic lobe compared to controls although it changes the shape of the firing output curve and a strong trend for lower mean firing frequency at lower injection currents is observed.

Expression of mir-980Scer\UAS.T:Disc\RFP under the control of Scer\GAL4Bx-MS1096 results in smaller wings than normal which are curved, and are sometimes blistered, The veins are very thick and sometimes fused.

Expression of mir-980Scer\UAS.T:Disc\RFP under the control of Scer\GAL4sd-SG29.1 results in wings which are either folded and blistered with a strongly affected vein pattern, or wings which are cut in half, forming a V-shape.
