Detailed Description

Reference

The phenotypic expressivity of the sdE3 mutant phenotype is background dependent.

Homozygotes/hemizygotes have scalloped wings.

Heterozygotes show a direct effect on the shape of the wing, having an effect in the anterior region, but no effect in the posterior region.

Homozygotes and hemizygotes show a reduced response to 1mM sucrose in a proboscis extension test when stimulated on the tarsal or labellar sensilla. Adults also show a reduced response to sucrose, and a normal preference but increased tolerance for salt in a feeding preference assay. The L1 neuron shows a normal response on stimulation of the labellar taste hairs with varying concentrations of sucrose, NaCl or KCl. Larvae show a reduced avoidance of NaCl and KCl in a chemotaxis test. Adults and larvae show a normal response to benzaldehyde and iso-amyl acetate in olfactory assays.
