Reference

Mutant flies show a significant decrease in ommochrome pigment levels and some reduction in drosopterin pigment levels compared to wild type.

Mutant flies have reduced red pigment in the eye compared to controls.

The primary pigment cells in ca1 flies lack the large electron-lucent xanthommatin granules seen in wild type, while the granules in the secondary and tertiary pigment cells are fewer in number than normal and vary considerably in shape and density of their content. The small xanthommatin pigment granules seen in photoreceptor cells in wild-type animals appear to be normal in ca1 flies. and bwkΔ11 produces animals with an extra veins phenotype.

Considerable amounts of pigment are deposited in the eye but the ocelli remain colourless.

Uptake of radio-labeled kynurenine by larval Malpighian tubules greatly reduced; uptake by developing eyes nearly normal.

Presence of 4-0-glucosyl-N-acetyldopamine, possibly a detoxification product of dopamine.

Produce less v+ substance than wild type.

Malpighian tubule colour: colourless.

Eye color autonomous when larval optic disk from ca1 is transplanted into wild type or v hosts. Wild-type disk in ca1 not entirely autonomous.

RK1. Eye colour: ruby. Body slightly narrow; wings pointed.
