Known mutation in sequenced strain: complex mutation (multiple in-frame stops).
Insertion of DNA into the transcription unit.
21-days old bw1 mutant adults raised at 29[o]C do not show significantly changes in PPL1 neurons, as compared to age-matched controls.
Sound-evoked compound action potentials in the antennal nerve are not significantly different from wild type in mutant flies. However, nonlinear mechanical amplification is significantly increased compared to wild type.
Mutant flies have significantly fewer synaptic vesicles in the terminals of the photoreceptor cells R1-R6 in the lamina. However, in contrast to the absolute numbers of synaptic vesicles, the profile density is not significantly different from wild type.
Male heterozygous and homozygous bw1 flies have an increased resistance to the anesthetic enflurane compared to wild-type controls, as judged by climbing ability. This effect is true whether enflurane resistance is measured in regular light or red light. bw1 male flies show no increased resistance to the anesthetic halothane compared to wild-type flies when climbing ability is measured in regular light. However, bw1 mutants show increased sensitivity to this anesthetic when climbing ability is measured in red light.
Affects the formation of drosopterins and reduces level of ommochrome in the eye.
Red pigments lacking. Xanthommatin mostly replaced by dihydroxanthommatin. Pigment granules present but somewhat smaller than in wild type.
Malpighian tubule colour: pale yellow. Testes colour: colourless.
bw1 has chemical resistant | dominant | male phenotype, non-enhanceable by st1
bw1 has chemical resistant | dominant | male phenotype, non-suppressible by st1
bw1/bw[+] is an enhancer of chemical sensitive phenotype of Gk1RNAi.UAS, Scer\GAL4c564
In(2LR)Nella, bw1 has abnormal eye color phenotype
In(2LR)Nella, bw1 has pigment cell phenotype
The glycerol hypersensitivity of flies expressing GykdsRNA.Scer\UAS under the control of Scer\GAL4c564 (seen as a reduction in survival on a glycerol only food source) is enhanced if the flies are also heterozygous for bw1.
The increased resistance of bw1 homozygous males to enflurane is not enhanced or suppressed by st1/st1. bw1/+, st1/+ males from bw1, st1 homozygous mothers show increased resistance to halothane when tested under red light and a slight increase in this resistance when tested under white light. A maternal effect is necessary for this phenotype as it is not seen in bw1/+, st1/+ males from bw1, st1 homozygous fathers.
Eye colour: off-white, with In(2LR)Nella.
Marker mutation present in the strain used in the genome sequencing project.
Eye color autonomous when transplanted into wild-type host.
