Detailed Description

In ac3 flies, the following thoracic macrochaetae are missing: the posterior dorsocentral, the anterior dorsocentral and the posterior supra-alar. These flies also show a loss of microchaetae on the thorax posteriorly, laterally and centrally.

Homozygotes lack most microchaetae and some macrochaetae on the notum and legs.

Sensory mother cells of bristles pSA, aDC and pDC are absent in the wing disc, but mitotically quiescent centers from which they emerge were present for aDC and pDC and showed no difference from wild type.

No detectable ac protein accumulation. Removes the sc expression from the cells from which the ac-dependent pSA and DC bristles arise.

The total number of bristles on the basitarsi of the second legs is reduced. The number of bractless bristles on the basitarsi remains normal. Significantly more bristles are missing from the anterior side of the basitarsus than from the posterior side. One or the other of the distal sensilla is sometimes missing.

Posterior and usually anterior dorsocentrals lacking; other bristles wild type. Hairs removed from areas across rear and front edges of thorax, through mid-dorsal area and between ocelli.

Genetic Interactions
Statement
Reference

The ac3 phenotype is strongly enhanced if the flies are also homozygous for klu212lR63, and slightly enhanced if the flies are also homozygous for kluP212.
