Breakpoint(s) molecularly mapped
The left breakpoint defines the distal limit of the y coding region. On the DNA map of Campuzano et al., 1985, this breakpoint is at +73 and on the DNA map of Biessmann, 1985, it lies between +36.5 and +38.3; in both maps, positive values are to the left of the origin.
The variegated body colour phenotype is not suppressed by Df(2R)ED3921.
The male mating success of In(1)y3P males is statistically equivalent to controls. Adult wings and bodies show reduced pigmentation.
Variegated body colour.
Mutants are viable and have a yellow wing and body phenotype. Bristle pigmentation is normal. The humeral, anterior supraalar, presutural, anterior orbital, ocellar, postvertical, anterior notopleural, scutellar, posterior supraalar, anterior dorsocentral, posterior dorsocentral and anterior vertical bristles are present. The rows of microchaetae on the notum are present.
Position-effect variegation and effect of modifiers of variegation on expression of y in In(1)y3P chromosome studied.
Adult body tan, most bristles black, although patches of yellow bristles and hairs; larval mouth parts light at prongs. Variegation for 'Hw' phenotype less extreme than for y.

PEV data based on acHw-1.
Breaks stated to be 1A;20, on basis of the fact that distal break falls in y and y (at that time) was thought to be in 1A.
