Breakpoint(s) molecularly mapped

Breakpoint between DNA coordinates +30.9 and +28.8 (Campuzano et al., 1985). 0 is an arbitrarily chosen EcoRI site in the scĪ² segment of ASC; positive values to the left (Carramolino et al., 1982).

Comments on Cytology

Cytology inferred from genetic data.

Limits of break 1 from polytene analysis (FBrf0039957) Limits of break 2 from polytene analysis (FBrf0042024)

Lethality of In(1)scL8/0 males can be suppressed by maternal effect.

In gynandromorphs, however, In(1)scL8/0 cells viable and normal in appearance suggesting that position effect suppression of rRNA is non-autonomous.

Homozygous females are sterile. In(1)scL8/0 almost completely male lethal.

In(1)scL8/0 almost completely male lethal. Lethality believed to be due to position-effect inactivation of the ribosomal cistrons and other genes affecting viability.
