The Protein Kinase A (PKA) or cAMP-dependent protein kinases are serine/threonine kinases activated by cAMP. The PKA catalytic subunit is maintained in an inactive state in a heterotetrameric complex consisting of two catalytic (C) subunits bound to two regulatory (R) subunits.
