The second (anterior-posterior) of the 4 major neuropils of the adult ventral nerve cord (Court et al., 2020). It is mostly composed of the somata and projections of central neurons derived from the mesothoracic array of neuroblasts and the axonal projections of sensory afferents from the mesothoracic legs and mesothorax (Court et al., 2020). The mesothoracic neuromere is closely associated with two distinct subdivisions of the thoracic neuropils: the accessory mesothoracic neuromere and the tectulum (Court et al., 2020). It is delimited anteriorly by the entry points of the neuroglian-positive tracts from the anterior mesothoracic lineages 2, 7, 8, 10, 15 and 16 (Court et al., 2020). The posterior margin is defined by the entry points of the neuroglian-positive tracts from the posterior mesothoracic lineages 0, 3, 6, 12, 11, 19, 21 and 23, all of which project anteriorly into the neuromere (Court et al., 2020).[ FlyBase:FBrf0246815 ] |
