ID (Ontology) |

Definition |
Johnston organ neuron that innervates zone C of the antennal mechanosensory and motor center (AMMC). The cell bodies of these neurons are co-mingled with those of zone E Johnston organ neurons, forming a broad ring mainly in the medial and outer layers of the Johnston's organ. Some of these neurons show a tonic response to static deflections of the arista (Kamikouchi et al., 2009) and are involved in sensing air-flow (Yorozu et al., 2009) and gravitational forces (Kamikouchi et al., 2009). They tend to have greater responses when the arista is displaced anteriorly, corresponding to air flow applied to the back of the head (Yorozu et al., 2009). Some of these neurons elicit antennal grooming (Hampel et al., 2015; Hampel et al., 2020).[ FlyBase:FBrf0194812 FlyBase:FBrf0207518 FlyBase:FBrf0207559 FlyBase:FBrf0229838 FlyBase:FBrf0247223 ] |
