Term |
descending neuron of the gnathal ganglion DNg12 |
ID (Ontology) |
FBbt:00047604 (Fly Anatomy) |
Definition |
Descending neuron belonging to the DNg group, having a cell body in the cell body rind around the gnathal ganglion (Namiki et al., 2018). Its dendrites arborize extensively in the gnathal ganglion, where it receives input from mechanosensory bristle neurons of the head, and its axon projects via the ipsilateral side of the cervical connective to the ipsilateral T1 leg neuropil (Namiki et al., 2018; Guo et al., 2022). There is a cluster of up to ten of these cells in each hemisphere (Namiki et al., 2018). Its activity induces ipsilateral ventral head and front leg grooming (Guo et al., 2022).[ FlyBase:FBrf0239335 FlyBase:FBrf0252837 ] |

Comment |
Namiki et al. (2018), identify this as being morphologically similar to the antennal grooming descending neuron 1 (FBbt:00111647), described by Hampel et al. (2015) (FBrf0229838), but Guo et al. (2022) consider these to be distinct. Synaptic input from mechanosensory neurons of chaeta determined by GRASP (Guo et al., 2022). |
