dorsal longitudinal indirect flight muscle |
ID (Ontology) |
FBbt:00058883 (Fly Anatomy) |
Definition |
Indirect flight muscle that extends anterioposteriorly, along the full length of the thorax (Dickinson and Tu, 1997). There are six of these muscles on each side, each with a single muscle cell (Dickinson and Tu, 1997). They have anterior attachment sites across the anterior and dorsal tergum and posterior attachment sites in the postnotum (Miyan and Ewing 1985). It functions to depress the wings by longitudinal arching of the scutum (Miller, 1950).[ FlyBase:FBrf0007735 FlyBase:FBrf0064793 FlyBase:FBrf0098527 FlyBase:FBrf0228229 ] |
Also Known As |
"DLM" ; "dorsal longitudinal muscle" ; "dorsal medial indirect flight muscle" (for all, see Synonyms field below) |
Comment |
DLM1-6 numbered ventral to dorsal (see Ikeda and Koenig (1988) - FBrf0048552), muscles 45a-f numbered dorsal to ventral (see Tanouye and Wyman (1981) - FBrf0074584). |
