Term adult Malpighian tubule Type II cell ID (Ontology) FBbt:00005736 (Fly Anatomy)
Definition Type II cell of the adult Malpighian tubule. These cells are found only in the upper tubule (initial, transitional and main segments) (Wang and Spradling, 2020). These cells show a bar-shaped morphology in the initial and transitional segments and stellate-shaped morphology in the main segment (Denholm et al., 2013).[ FlyBase:FBrf0220823 FlyBase:FBrf0222532 FlyBase:FBrf0245230 ]
Comment The change in Type II cell shape from cuboidal to bar-shaped (initial and transitional segments) or stellate-shaped (main segment) occurs in the last 12h of pupal development (Denholm, 2013).
