maxillary palp bristle |
ID (Ontology) |

Definition |
Trichoid sensillum of the maxillary palp. It has an external sensory structure that consists of a bundle of smaller, closely apposed fibers, each of which is marked by oblique grooves (Riesgo-Escovar et al., 1997). It has no pores and is anchored in a prominent socket, indicative of mechanosensory function (Riesgo-Escovar et al., 1997). There are approximately 15-20 of these on each maxillary palp (Riesgo-Escovar et al., 1997; Eichler et al., 2023). They are generally found on the distal tip and lateral edge of the palp (Riesgo-Escovar et al., 1997).[ FlyBase:FBrf0091407 ] |
Also Known As |
"MaPa bristle" ; "sensillum trichodeum of maxillary palpus" |
Comment |
Structure is consistent with these sensilla being mechanosensory rather than chemosensory (Riesgo-Escovar et al., 1997). |
