UASt regulatory sequences drive expression of the coding region and a few nucleotides of 5' UTR sequence (to provide translational initiation context) of E(spl)m4-BFM.

Flies expressing m4Scer\UAS.cLa under the control of Scer\GAL4sca-537.4 show defects in the adult peripheral nervous system similar to that seen when BrdScer\UAS.cLa is expressed under the control of Scer\GAL4sca-537.4, although the degree of bristle multiplication is slightly greater. Flies expressing high levels of m4Scer\UAS.cLa under the control of Scer\GAL4ey.PS show strong defects in ommatidial assembly and organisation, showing substantial ommatidial fusion and lens pitting in the eye. Expression of m4Scer\UAS.cLa under the control of either Scer\GAL4Bx-MS1096 or Scer\GAL469B does not appear to alter wing vein fates or the overall integrity of the wing margin, although sensory organ fates in each of these territories are altered.
